festive Dollhouse Christmas Ideas

****

Veronica Scott

While you decorate your home for the holidays, take the time to do the same careful trimming on your dollhouse as well. A dollhouse Christmas can bring warmth and life into your display, and you'll almost be able to imagine the little people inside, enjoying the festivities. There are many ways to celebrate a dollhouse Christmas and add holiday spirit to your scene.

Every Christmas needs a tree, and your dollhouse is no different. You can create a miniature Christmas tree in your dollhouse parlor or living room. Many manufacturers offer conifer trees that would be used to landscape the exterior of your dollhouse, but you can certainly use these trees indoors as well. You can buy a miniature Christmas tree that comes already decorated for the festivities, or you can rise to the challenge of crafting a miniature Christmas tree yourself. Add decorations that resemble your own tree to bring your holiday spirit into your dollhouse.

Another way to get your dollhouse ready to celebrate the holidays is to create and then place, some packages to put underneath the tree. Additional decorating ideas include running some garland down a staircase banister and hanging greenery throughout the dollhouse. Any miniature decorations of Santa or other Christmas themes will also enhance the Christmas feel of your miniature house.

There are also many holiday decorating ideas that involve the outside of your dollhouse. Consider stringing some miniature lights around the eaves of the house and around the doorways. If you enjoy detail work, then you will really enjoy making a small wreath to hang on the front door of your dollhouse. It creates an even more dramatic effect if you can work some lights into the wreath. Also, when thinking about the exterior landscape, don’t forget about the aesthetic value of artificial snow. The addition of snow will complete the transformation of your traditional dollhouse into a winter wonderland.

You may find it fun to move the miniature people in your dollhouse outside at this time of year. Dress them in warm coats and scarves and create a scene that depicts them playing in the snow with the family dog or even sledding. Regardless of how you choose to set it up, the addition of some holiday flair to your dollhouse or miniature display will only serve to enhance the overall holiday décor of your home. See how much depth and character you can give to your display. Remember, don’t just stop at decorating a tree, Christmas is a holiday that affects the décor of the entire house, inside and out.

Tips and Tricks for Dollmakers

  • Hanging in there

In more ways than one! Had a fun day today - my friend Karen has an art play day every month and I was able to make it today. We played with fabric paint and Shiva paint sticks. Fun. I don't own any rubbing plates (amazing, eh?) - and she didn't have the paint sticks - so it worked out great, lol. While I was there I colored my severed hands with Dye-na-flow - and when I got home I strung them up in the garage to dry. I don't know why I didn't think of that before. They do look kind of creepy hanging there!

  • Plush, plush

I have nearly sold out of the plush down at The Stash so I bought a bunch more fleece and I'm making more. I'm SO glad they are being loved! These are the latest two .. this is LizzieBeth - Lizzie wants to be a stripper but Beth wants to be an electrical engineer - they aren't really happy with each other right now.

Then we have EllieMae - she told me her story but the radio was on and she was whispering. I asked her to repeat it but she refused. So, who knows? When I took these down to the store there were two little girls there with their Mom - and the younger one (7? maybe 8?) immediately picked up Ellie and hugged her. Can't ask for a better compliment!!!!

and and and ... I got a start on four severed hands today ! It feels good to be making something again!

  • Slowly, slowly

Did a bit more work on the collage - fixed the hair and did some 'decorating'. I'm up to the face but I haven't drawn one in 7 months. I traced the shape onto some tracing paper and tried to draw one. Ai yi yi. Not a good thing, LOL. I'm going to have to do some practicing before I lay down more paint on this.

    Vintage Doll House Furniture

    Laura Anne Grey

Vintage doll house furniture is very difficult to find. Most old pieces of doll house furniture have been played with so much that it is very difficult to find any still in one piece. Dolls houses are also often passed down in families and old furniture pieces are replaced or lost along the way.

If you are fortunate enough to come across a vintage piece of furniture cling onto it for all your worth. True vintage pieces can be worth quite a bit and I have seen single pieces of furniture sell for hundreds of pounds.

It is always nice if you can find a vintage piece of furniture that we don’t use in our houses any more and these are always worth the most. Like a 50’s style cooker from an actual fifties doll house or a Victorian pram from an actual Victorian doll house.

There is also Vintage Hand made or Artisan dolls house furniture. These are pieces especially made by craftsmen and women. A lot of work goes into a hand made miniature item and they are usually very detailed. Hand made miniatures are usually exquisite pieces and believe it or not can cost thousands of pounds. You are very lucky if you find a hand made piece of vintage furniture.

The best place to start looking for vintage doll house furniture is your local auction house. It is best to look for an old doll house because they often come with some furniture still in tact and they are easier to find than miniature furniture alone.
